ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Coast Guardsmen at Loran Station Attu spent free time rebuilding a plaque commemorating the Aleut village of Chichagof on Attu Island this fall. The village fell during the Japanese occupation of the island in World War II. The original plaque was found in pieces this spring by station personnel. Harsh Aleutian weather had taken its toll. The crew rededicated the site to the memory of the villagers on Nov. 3, 2007. (Official Coast Guard Photo courtesy of Loran Station Attu)
