HOUSTON, Texas (Dec. 11)--In some of the narrower parts of the Houston ship channel, ships have to do what is called "Texas Chicken" just to pass each other. This is a practice where they pass close abeam of each other, actually using each others displacement to give them the extra water they need under their hulls to avoid grounding on the edges of the channel.
