Honolulu, HI (Aug. 28) - Coast Guard Rear Adm. J.J. McClelland Jr. pins the Coast Guard Medal on Petty Officer 3nd Class William R. Culnon during a ceremony at the Coast Guard Integrated Support Command here to award him for heroism during the 1999 Sacred Falls State Park landslide. Culnon demonstrated a total disregard for his own personal safety by re-entering the landslide area to offer assistance. Eight people were killed and many others injured in the landslide.
