NORTHERN ARABIAN GULF, IRAQ (June 20, 2003)--The waters of the Khawr 'Abd Allah, the waterway which links the Iraqi port of Umm Qasr with the Arabian Gulf, are visible through the Clear-view window in the pilothouse of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Aquidneck (WPB 1309) as it patrols the lower reaches. Coast Guard cutters continue to play significant roles by watching over Iraq's waterborne commerce, preventing encroachment by foreign fishing fleets and securing offshore oil terminals.
