A family’s home in Tacloban, Republic of the Philippines, is scattered with debris created by Typhoon Haiyan. Haiyan made landfall Nov. 7 with estimated sustained winds near 200 mph and wind gusts eclipsing 220 mph. At the request of the Government of the Philippines, U.S. Marines have been providing assistance to the Armed Forces of the Philippines as part of Operation Damayan. More than 4.2 million people were affected by the typhoon and 36 provinces across the country. The Marines providing assistance are assigned to 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade in support of Joint Task Force 505.
