United States Air Force Lt. Col. Phillip Shea, 517th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron commander, provides a welcome brief to new members of his deployed unit who arrived on a C-17 Globemaster III from Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. The 26 airmen deployed to the 517th EAS to conduct flying operations using the heavy-airlift platform. The new arrivals joined more than 40 airmen who deployed from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Nov. 5. Kiwi Flag personnel are supporting Exercise Southern Katipo - held on New Zealand’s South Island - by managing air operations and providing cargo and passenger airlift including tactical air drops to SK participants. SK hosts nine countries involved in air, land and maritime operations. Exercise Kiwi Flag runs through Nov. 29.
