Cmdr. Rich Massie, left, gold crew commanding officer of the ballistic-missile submarine USS Maine (SSBN 741) supervises the boat's return to Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor following a strategic deterrent patrol. Massie, a Naval Postgraduate School alumnus, was recently named the 2013 Pacific Fleet recipient of the Navy’s prestigious Stockdale Award for Inspirational Leadership. The Maine was also awarded the 2012 Battle “E” Award.
