Civilians displaced by Typhoon Haiyan board a U.S. Marine Corps KC-130J Super Hercules at Tacloban Air Base, Nov. 13, before being transported to Manila. U.S. service members are assisting the Armed Forces of the Philippines as they preform recovery efforts for the people affected in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan. The role of U.S. military forces during any foreign humanitarian assistance event is to rapidly respond with support to help mitigate human suffering and prevent further loss of life.
