Aviation Electrician's Mate 3rd Class William Vanepps, a native of Lansing, Mich., subdues a simulated attacker after being sprayed in the face with Oleoresin Capsicum, Nov. 8, 2013. Vanepps is taking part in an obstacle course as part of Naval Air Facility Misawa's Auxiliary Security Force Academy. Prior to navigating the course, Vanepps and his fellow students each received a dose of Oleoresin Capsicum, also known as pepper spray, so they could have a better understanding of the affects of this non-lethal weapon, which they may need to deploy someday in the performance of their duties.
