Marines load palletized equipment onto a KC-130J Hercules aircraft Nov. 11 at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan, during preparation for a humanitarian assistance and disaster relief mission to the Philippines in the wake of Super Typhoon Haiyan. Approximately 300 Marines and Sailors assigned to 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force have deployed to the Philippines to assess support requirements. Since 1990, the U.S. Government has responded to more than 40 disasters in the Philippines at the request of that country’s government, ranging from volcanic eruptions, drought, and population displacement.
