Civilian first responders and National Guard soldiers exit the scene of a simulated collapsed building at the former Brunswick Naval Air Station. The collapsed building was one part of a multi-day training exercise that will bring civilian emergency responders, aid groups, National Guard soldiers and international groups together to strengthen communication and preparedness in case of a real emergency. During the exercise, called “Vigilant Guard” the emergency crews will respond to disasters such as a massive winter ice storm, chemical and hazardous material threats, bomb and terrorist threats, collapsed structures, and cyber-security breaches.
