Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island

Rct. Zachary Garner, Platoon 1080, Bravo Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, answers questions about Marine Corps uniforms during his practical application test Oct. 18, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. This was part of Garner's final written test, one of the last graduation requirements before beginning the 54-hour culminating event of training, the Crucible. Garner, an 18-year-old native of Loudon, Tenn., is scheduled to graduate Nov. 1, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent for females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Lance Cpl. MaryAnn Hill)
