U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Alex Usztics, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) force reconnaissance platoon commander and native of Dauphin, Pa., performs push ups with his Marines after receiving a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with a valor device during an award ceremony aboard the USS Bataan (LHD 5) off the East Coast Oct. 26, 2013. Usztics received the award for actions during combat in Sangin Province, Afghanistan, December 2010, and April 2011. The MEU is scheduled to deploy in early 2014 to the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility with the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group as a sea-based, expeditionary crisis response force capable of conducting amphibious missions across the full range of military operations.
