Japan Army Sgt. 1st Class Yasuyuki Iwashita, a communications equipment specialist with the Japan Self Defense Forces' Deployment Air Force for Counter-Piracy Enforcement unit (DAPE), tests radio equipment at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, July 5, 2013 with U.S. Army Sgt. Rodrick Brown, a communications section chief with 1st Battalion, 63rd Armor Regiment 2nd Armor Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division (1/63 AR RG). During emergencies, an effective and reliable communication system between Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa and coalition partners is essential. Recognizing this need, members of DAPE and the CJTF 1/63 AR RG met and successfully tested their radio equipment to ensure it can communicate in emergency conditions.
