Luke Barto, 451st Air Expeditionary Wing Safety Office Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard program, uses an improvised ignition source to burn weeds in a pond on Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, Sept. 24. Barto, a U.S. Department of Agriculture employee, worked with the KAF Fire Department to burn the weeds on pond and remove a habitat for birds. The 451 AEW BASH program reduces the potential for bird strikes at KAF, protecting all coalition aircraft and airmen operating here. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Jake Sanders)
