Cpl. Rolando M. Mallari Jr. uses a guideline to keep a truss upright while other Marines secure it Oct. 5 during an engineering civic assistance project at Taysan Elementary School, Legazpi City, Albay, Republic of the Philippines. Mallari spent about 20 years in the Philippines as a youth, and is currently on his second deployment to the country for Amphibious Landing Exercise 2014. PHIBLEX 14 is designed to improve interoperability, increase readiness and enhance the ability for a bilateral force to respond to natural disasters or other regional contingencies. Mallari is a combat engineer with Marine Wing Support Squadron 172, assigned to 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade, III Marine Expeditionary Force during Amphibious Landing Exercise 2014.
