Cpl. Rolando M. Mallari Jr., yellow hardhat, assists Philippine Navy Seabees and U.S. Marine combat engineers lift a truss Oct. 1 during an engineer civic assistance project at Taysan Elementary School, Legazpi City, Albay, Republic of the Philippines. From an early age, his uncle, who was a Marine, inspired Mallari to join the U.S. Marine Corps. Mallari is a combat engineer with Marine Wing Support Squadron 172, assigned to 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade, III Marine Expeditionary Force during Amphibious Landing Exercise 2014. Bilateral training during PHIBLEX 14 ensures Philippine and U.S. forces are capable of integrating effectively to conduct humanitarian assistance and regional security missions.
