Lance Cpl. Oscar Kush, mortarman, Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, and a native of Chicago, trains with a sparing partner during a Mixed Martial Arts class in Oceanside, Calif., Oct. 3, 2013. Kush said sparring is very important to his training. It develops his skills and shows him what he needs to work on. MMA training helps relieve Kush's day-to-day stress of being an infantryman. Kush has been in two MMA fights and has not lost a match.
