Rct. Sarah Rue with Platoon 4034, Oscar Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, completes a drill during combat marksmanship training Sept. 27, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. Recruits participate in a series of shooting and reloading drills 25 and 100 yards away from their targets. The drills teach recruits how to quickly engage multiple targets effectively. Rue, a 17-year-old native of Ruidoso, N.M., is scheduled to graduate Oct. 18, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
