Rct. Jadie Perdue with Platoon 4035, Oscar Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, reviews her scores with Sgt. Christopher Roberts, a combat marksmanship coach, after completing combat marksmanship training Sept. 27, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. Coaches like Roberts, a 29-year-old native of Columbus, Ohio, ensure recruits shoot and reload properly and safely. Recruits learn how to quickly engage multiple targets effectively. Perdue, an 18-year-old native of Bellefonte, Pa., is scheduled to graduate Oct. 18, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Pfc. Vaniah Temple)
