Capt. Gary Mayes, commanding officer of Naval Base Coronado, is presented an award of excellence on behalf of the sailors assigned to NBC for hosting the Coronado Speed Festival awards ceremony in the hangar bay of the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), “America’s Flagship." This festival was created in 1997 to honor the military while enjoying a rich automobile history. For two days, Naval Base Coronado and hosting ships opens its gates to the public for open house.
