    AWG Subterranean Risk Reduction Exercise prepares soldiers for NIE 14.1

    Soldiers from Company B, 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division of the Brigade Modernization Command use rope work and knot tying techniques to descend and extract a mock casualty down into a culvert while mitigating through limited visibility and simulated tainted air quality during the Army Asymmetric Warfare Group’s Subterranean Risk Reduction Exercise in September. Because of the potential requirements for ascending and descending into and out of confined subterranean spaces while simultaneous facing limited visibility and low quality air in these types of environment, the AWG in collaborated with Vermont National Guard’s 15th Civil Support Team and Army Mountain Warfare School developed scenarios for the soldiers to better prepare them for operation in within this environment. AWG’s end state for the Subterranean Risk Reduction Exercise and its upcoming participation in NIE 14.1 is to develop technique solutions to capability gaps with respect to subterranean operations and ultimately develop an Army Techniques Publication on subterranean warfare for the force.
