A sea of airmen silently walk in the settling dusk at Transit Center at Manas, Kyrgyzstan, on Sept. 11, 2013. The somber setting reflects the intent of the memorial walk honoring people who have died in service since the attacks against America on Sept. 11, 2001. Personnel at the center support four mission pillars of air refueling, onward movement, airlift and humanitarian assistance. The Transit Center came into existence in Dec. 2001 to support operations in Afghanistan in direct response to the events of 9-11 a dozen years ago. (U.S. Air Force Photo/Lt. Col. Max Despain)
