U.S. Army Col. Matthew McFarlane, commanding officer of the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, presented the Spirit Award to Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry, 4-25 IBCT, for having 31 paratroopers participate in the Spartan Sprint Triathlon competition that began and ended at Buckner Gym Sept. 7, 2013, at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. The triathlon consisted of a 300 yard swim, 12-mile bike route and 5 kilometer run. All military ID card holders were welcome and the first 100 registrations received a Spartan Sprint T-shirt.
