U.S. Army Col. Matthew McFarlane, commanding officer of the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, presented the Spartan Spirit Award to Pfc. Trevor Sporer, hailing from Detroit, Spc. Nathan Geringer from Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Spc. Luke Polasik of Parkville, Md., all with Blackfoot Company, 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry, 4-25 IBCT, for their participation in the Spartan Sprint Triathlon competition that began and ended at Buckner Gym Sept. 7, 2013, at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. The triathlon consisted of a 300 yard swim, 12-mile bike route and 5 kilometer run. All military ID card holders were welcome and the first 100 registrations received a Spartan Sprint T-shirt.
