U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ashley Gregory, drill sergeant instructor, confers with Armed Forces of Liberia drill sergeants as U.S. Army 1st Class Francisco Latimer, senior drill sergeant instructor, leads AFL soldiers through physical fitness session during a drill sergeant refresher course at Camp Ware, Liberia. The U.S. Army instructors from Fort Jackson, S.C., assisted Operation Onward Liberty by teaching a week-long drill sergeant refresher course as the AFL prepares to enlist approximately 150 new recruits. OOL provides mentorship to the AFL to produce a capable, respected force able to protect Liberian interests in the West African region. In addition, the OOL is developing the leadership capabilities of the officers and noncommissioned officers to maintain a professional and credible military force with a reputation as a “force for good” among the Liberian people.
