Aircraft launching officer Lt. Cmdr. Peter Salvaggio explains flight deck operations to University of Southern California head football coach, Pete Carroll on the flight deck aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis. Carroll is one of several USC alumni and staff visiting Stennis to thank Sailors and Marines for their service, sacrifice and dedication to their country. Stennis and multiple embarked fleet replacement squadrons are conducting fleet replacement squadron carrier qualifications off the coast of Southern California. FRSCQ's are conducted to qualify naval aviators in day and night carrier operations for the first time in the aircraft they will fly during their aviation career.
