Corporal Joshua Burton, rifleman, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, demonstrates how to properly handle a detainee during the Integrated Training Exercise here, Aug. 12, 2013. Burton, 21, a native of Bakersfield, Calif., said this type of training is essential because it shows Marines how to teach the proper way to handle detainees to the Afghan National Army. The Marines assume a supporting role while deployed to Afghanistan by letting the ANA and the Afghan National Police lead in combat operations. The ITX is a training exercise held to prepare Marines prior to their upcoming deployment to Afghanistan.
