Rct. Emily Cross, 18, Platoon 4029, Oscar Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, waits for commands to fire during combat marksmanship training Aug. 8, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. Combat marksmanship training gives recruits a basic understanding for practical shooting in combat, such as firing quickly at moving or multiple targets. Cross is from Mountain Home, Idaho, and is scheduled to graduate Aug. 30, 2013. Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent for females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Lance Cpl. David Bessey)
