1194th Engineer Company meets adversity head onThe 1194th Vertical Engineer Company has completed yet another Annual Training (AT). As opposed to a usual AT event spent conducting construction operations, a deployment looms in the not too distant future and the unit exceeded the standard in preparation. They spent two weeks of vigorous training at Camp Atterbury, Indiana.

CLS instructor is passionate about trainingWhen it comes to teaching combat lifesaving skills to her fellow New York Army National Guard Soldiers, 1st Lt. Christine Kalafut is passionate about it. “I have seen many of these techniques save lives in the hospitals. I work in emergency medicine and I also ride as an emergency medical technician, and I have used almost every one of the techniques taught in CLS as an EMT,” said Kalafut, a physician assistant for the 369th Special Troops Battalion.

Update: National Guard response to Western wildfires increasesMore than 2,000 National Guard members are assisting state and local authorities in battling wildfires across five states in the Western U.S., more than double the number of Guard members who were assisting last week and is the largest National Guard response to a natural disaster since Hurricane Sandy in 2012, said Guard officials.
