Cheatham Lock accessible to visitors seven days a weekThe U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is offering public access to Cheatham Navigation Lock. The lock is open to visitors seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from now until Sept. 8, 2015.


Family of missing Korean War Soldier to be presented military medals
More than 60 years after being declared missing in action by the U.S. Department of Defense, a Soldier who served in the Korean War will be honored for his military service. The family of Cpl. Elmer Bear will be presented his Purple Heart and additional military awards during a ceremony at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 30 at the Ralph Wells Memorial Complex in White Shield, North Dakota. Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk, North Dakota adjutant general, will join the family during the awards presentation, which will follow a memorial ceremony being held at the Old Scouts Cemetery at 12 p.m., four miles west of White Shield.


43rd SB responds vibrantly
The 43rd Sustainment Brigade participated in Exercise Vibrant Response, the nation’s premier disaster response exercise, April 20 – May 10 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. The exercise included participants from the Department of Defense, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Indiana National Guard, the State of Missouri and several other local, state, and federal agencies. This year the exercise simulated a nuclear explosion in the Midwest. The 43rd SB served as the logistics command and control element for deployed Soldiers to Indiana to sustain the various elements of the Joint Task Forces Civil Support (JTF-CS).

Raider Brigade Strykers meet the Globemaster IIISoldiers buckled themselves into the seats lining the inside of the C-17 while elbowing each other for space. The flight was short but they shared it with 19-ton Strykers strapped down by gleaming chains at their feet.
