Camaraderie found through shared hardshipsThe Soldiers stood up straight with their hands at their sides. Laid directly in front of them was a pit of sand and water covered by a camouflage net like a canopy over a deck. They had dragged water jugs and each other under that netting. To their left was a fake horse stable where they had removed all of the dirt and to their right a fake cannon which they had positioned to combat a fake enemy. All of these objects were used as obstacles for the Soldiers. They still stood there with the mud caked to their uniforms and their voices loud. “Halfway down the trail to hell ... ”


Stories and families: A retiree retires again
Army Reserve retired colonel retires from volunteer postLarrie Noble is not your typical volunteer. Retiring now at 73 years old, she is leaving her unpaid position as an Army Reserve Family Readiness Group (FRG) leader after 15 years of faithful volunteer service. Those 15 years followed another 25 years of service as an Army Reserve officer and nurse. On the civilian side, she also worked almost 50 years as a public health nurse in Multnomah County, Oregon.

The Army Reserve shows off at a car showFor the third time this month, the 311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command’s Army Reserve Soldiers brought their vehicles out for display at a community event May 30 at the Los Angeles Police Department’s 12th Annual Still Saving Lives Car Show and Safety Fair. The 311th ESC featured two High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles and two Light-Medium Tactical Vehicles, which were particularly popular with kids.
