Dedicated NCO leads from the front
Dedicated NCOEver since he was a boy, Staff Sgt. Jason Diaz dreamed about being a Soldier. He remembers playing “Soldiers” with his brother and even dressing up as an Army Soldier for Halloween. “I always had a passion to be in the military as a little kid and all the way up to high school,” said Diaz, a Bradley commander with Company B, 1st Battalion, 72nd Armor Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. “My father was a police officer and I wanted to make him proud by joining the military and serving my country.”

NCOs teach resiliency skills
NCOs teach resiliency skillsOne of the most important skills Soldiers have is being resilient during difficult times. While each Soldier is different, they all face similar challenges – moving to a new duty station, meeting new leadership, and the constant unknowns of Army life. When Soldiers arrive at Fort Drum they go through a two-day Master Resilience Training course where they learn skills for combatting daily stresses.

TSC sergeant major’s career strikes perfect tone
TSC sergeant major’s career strikes perfect toneWhen most people think of jobs in the Army, they don’t realize the multitude of opportunities available to recruits looking to join the Army. But one 21st Theater Sustainment Command sergeant major found instant harmony when he enlisted into the Army nearly 28 years ago.

Are you getting the rest you need?
Sleep hygieneHe lied restlessly in bed and wide-awake. The clock stared back at him with an ominous glow of its digital numbers: 3:32 a.m. He couldn’t remember the last time he had a good night’s sleep. He turned over. He just couldn’t get comfortable. No matter how much he tried, it just didn’t seem to be a way to get into a position that would allow him to fall asleep. The moon shined oppressively through the windows and invaded his bedroom with its white light. His mind kept racing through the next day’s problems and yesterday’s faults. What if he did this? What if he did that? Maybe if he was just able to focus on his family and get his work done than none of this… Wait! This is what he was thinking a few hours ago. His mind was going in circles. He knew he needed help.
