NATO nations demonstrate airborne capability in Swift Response 15
NATO nations demonstrate airborne capability in Swift Response 15After 66 years, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s commitment to collective security is as firm as ever, with 11 nations participating in a military training exercise that includes the largest airborne operation in Europe since World War II. Preceded by precise battlefield preparation actions by U.S. and allied special operations forces, over 1,500 allied paratroopers jumped in to exercise Swift Response. The task force parachuted in, ready to fight a battle-hardened opposing force, to an exercise that included a tough, realistic scenario with a full spectrum of combat, combat-related and non-combat missions.

Celebrating Women's Equality Day
Celebrating Women's Equality DayIn 1971 the U.S. Congress designated Aug. 26 as “Women’s Equality Day.” The date was selected to commemorate the 1920 passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote. This was the culmination of a massive, peaceful civil rights movement by women that had its formal beginnings in 1848 at the world’s first women’s rights convention, in Seneca Falls, N.Y.

This is field artillery
This is field artilleryThe Soldiers of Bravo Battery, 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery Regiment “Rolling Thunder,” 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, have spent the past month parked on top of firing point 180, a small, fenced in patch of dirt located directly beside Pocheon, a rural town in South Korea. Three M109A6 Paladins, a massive self-propelled howitzer firing 155mm shells, sit on concrete pads stationed across the fire point. Their turrets point north towards Rodriguez Range, where the 1st Battalion, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd ABCT, is completing their gunnery cycle on the peninsula. The cannon crews spend most of their time trying to stay out of the sun or picking at field rations. Sgt. Bernard Poole, a cannon crew chief from Miami, Florida, half-listens to his Soldiers making jokes while radio chatter fills in the background. All conversation stops when they hear one phrase come in on the wire. “Fire mission.”
