The State of the Corps
As Marines transition from more than a decade of sustained combat into a "new normal" security environment, all Marines must know and understand their role in national defense and how they contribute to the continued success of the Marine Corps.
Learn a little more about the "State of the Corps," a snapshot of our recent achievements, current challenges and the role of Marines in the future.
Lt. Gen. Ronald Bailey explains how the Corps is posturing for the future — "If the wolf sniffs at the door, the United States Marine Corps will be all over that."
The Corps is returning to its amphibious roots and focusing on crisis-response. This force moves quickly to be on the scene, whether it is a challenge to reinforce an embassy, conduct a raid, or do a relief-type operation. For example, the Corps is in the process of opening 10 new Marine Security Guard Detachments and establishing the Marine Security Guard Security Augmentation Unity by the end of 2014.
