Washington National Guard Joint Service Support hosted a Suicide Awareness 5K run, Friday, September 26th, 2014 at Camp Murray, Wash. With an estimated 22 veterans a day committing suicide, the Joint Services Support Directorate for the Washington National Guard lined up 22 pairs of combat boots to signify each life lost per day. Suicide warning signs and ways to help were posted all around the Washington National Guard’s gym. More than 150 service members and state employees for the Washington National Guard and Washington Military Department gathered in the pouring rain on this morning to run an estimated five kilometers around the perimeter of the Washington National Guard’s headquarters on Camp Murray for Suicide Prevention Month.
