My name is Senior Airman Ashley Romeo. I'm a wife and mother, and feel lucky to be able to say that. While pregnant with my daughter, my husband and I were hit, broadside, by a drunk driver during the early afternoon. Turns out the driver had been drinking all day.
We both feel very lucky. It was bad, but it could have been a lot worse. My husband's arm was broken, requiring surgery, and he had a confusion. He still suffers from memory loss. I had serious bruising and had too be hospitalized. We did everything right. Wearing seat belts prevented more severe injury for us and our baby.
I learned life long lessons that day. Always prepare for the unexpected and always use all safety equipment available, such as seat belts in a car, helmets in a motor cycle, and never take safety for granted. Also available in high definition.
