Marines with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit Marines and Sailors from the 11th MEU and Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group team recovered 11 personnel from three isolated islands more than 900 miles of Hawaii and directly in the path of Hurricane Iselle. MV-22B Ospreys from Marine Medium Tiltroto Squadron 163 (reinforced transported the researchers to Midway Atoll where they could seek shelter from the storm. The 11th MEU and Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group are deployed as a sea based, expeditionary crisis response force capable of conducting amphibious missions across the full range of military operations.
