On 20 and 21 July, 2014 the Black Sea Rotational Force (3rd Battalion, 8th
Marine Regiment conducted 81mm mortar live fire missions with the CONUS
Based Air Alert Force (3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment) and live fire squad
attack drills during Platinum Lion 2014 at Novo Selo Training Ground,
Bulgaria. Platinum Lion includes U.S. Marines and sailors from 3rd Battalion,
8th Marine Regiment and 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, as well as
soldiers from Bulgaria, Romania, Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom. At
more than 650 participants, Platinum Lion 14-1 is the largest exercise to ever
