  • ASTORIA, Ore. - The Coast Guard rescued a surfer in distress off Indian Beach in Ecola State Park near Cannon Beach, Ore., Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010.

Coast Guard Air Station Astoria diverted an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to the scene at approximately 4:00 p.m.

The surfer was airlifted and dropped off at the Ecola State Park parking area where Cannon Beach Fire and Rescue loaded him onto an ambulance and transported him to Providence Seaside Hospital in Seaside, Ore.

  • A Coast Guard Air Station Astoria MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew rescues an injured surfer from the Grays Harbor, Wash., south jetty Jan. 25, 2014.

The helicopter crew was able to coordinate with personnel on the ground to safely hoist the injured surfer and transfer him to emergency medical crews at Coast Guard Station Grays Harbor.

  • ASTORIA, Ore. - The Coast Guard rescues a woman from a cliff at Tillamook Head, near Astoria, Ore., Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011. Coast Guard Sector Columbia River received a report at 8:35 a.m., from Seaside, Ore., emergency dispatch of a female who fell while hiking in an area known as Tillamook Head.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew, from Air Station Astoria, was launched to the scene, as was a High Angle Rescue Team from Seaside Fire Department.

A Coast Guard rescue swimmer was lowered, secured the woman in a harness, then hoisted her into the helicopter. She was transported to the Astoria Airport where local emergency medical personnel treated her for minor scrapes and bruises before being released.
