The U.S. Navy will conduct a live feed starting at noon EDT Sept. 13, 2013, of the homecoming of the guided missile destroyer USS Mahan (DDG 72). Mahan made headlines around the world after being directed by the Secretary of Defense to head east to be ready to conduct prompt and sustained combat operations in response to the alleged chemical weapons attack in Syria. The broadcast will also feature the promotion of ten Sailors to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. The Sailors and their hometowns are:
(SEL) Chad Berry - Altoona, Pa.
    FCC(SEL) Christopher Chalmers, Anchorage, Alaska,
LSC(SEL) Edlyne Diaz, Pompano Beach, Fla.
    YNC(SEL) Shaquan Gravesford - Bronx, N.Y.,
DCC(SEL) Glenn Havert, Round Lake Beach, Ill.
EMC(SEL) Gregory Holcombe, Royersford, Pa.,GSMC(SEL) Daniel Hunt, Prescott, Ariz. DCC(SEL) Jamie Klettkem, Watertown, Wisc.,
OSC(SEL) Demetrice Saunders, Cleveland, Ohio, MAC(SEL) Michael Shrum, Gallatin, Tenn.
In the Navy, the promotion to Chief Petty Officer is significant. Chief Petty Officers are the Navy's technical experts in their fields. Their experience and leadership skills make them deck plate leaders for all Sailors. Promotion to Chief is the pinnacle of an enlisted person's Navy career.
