Video: Father Surprises Son Serving in U.S. Army in the Republic of Korea

Surprise moment and follow on interviews with Mr. Benjamin Rankin Jr. and his son, Privat Benjamin Rankin III, a soldier currently serving in the Republic of Korea. It was a suprise visit for the Soldier's birthday which happens to be the Army's Birthday, June 14. Former soldier father surprises son serving U.S. Army in the Republic of Korea, with behind the scenes coordination by Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 72nd Armor Regiment. Mr. Benjamin Eugene Rankin Jr. surprised his son Private Benjamin Eugene Rankin III for his 25th Birthday. Private Rankin, a Campbellsburgh, KY. native, serves as a tank crewman in Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 72nd Armor Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Casey, South Korea. Private Rankin shares his birthday with the Army's birthday, 14 June. The reunion had been planned for several months by his family without his knowledge but also allowed for Father and Son, to be reunited for Father's Day. Mr. Benjamin Eugene Rankin Jr. is a former soldier and after this special surprise the two will spend the time catching up and touring some of Private Rankin's favorite places in South Korea. Private Rankin was working in the battalion's motor pool before the surprise and believed he was being interviewed by the brigade public affairs office about his role in the tank crew, his choice of job specialty in the military and some of his experiences as a Soldier stationed with the Army's only remaining forward deployed division, the 2nd Infantry Division. This is Private Rankin's first duty station since joining the Army and he has been stationed in Korea since January, 2013. Soldier father and son reunite in Korea just in time for Fathers' Day.
