The 152nd Airlift Wing is conducting the Mountain Flag exercise through Friday, April 26, involving multiple launches of their C-130 Hercules aircraft. Six C-130s are taking off, landing and flying together throughout the week. The wing plans to launch multiple “sorties” before Friday.
Launching multiple aircraft concurrently provides valuable, efficient training for surge operations and is a regular, albeit infrequent, training operation. Saturday marks the first time since 2008 the 152nd Airlift Wing launched six of its eight aircraft at once.
Northern Nevada is quickly becoming a sought-after training site for C-130 pilots due to similar flying conditions to the mountains of South East Asia
