NEW YORK - Marines will load Toys for Tots donations into tactical vehicles in Times Square from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 19 to Saturday, Dec. 24, during their final collection of toys before Christmas.


Sixth Communication Battalion, a Marine Forces Reserve unit based in Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, runs the Toys for Toys drive for New York City. Last year they collected approximately 280,000 toys, the majority of them being collected during this last-week scramble before Christmas.

  • On, Oct. 29, three Marines and a Navy hospital corpsman in New York responded to a call from the NYPD for help. First responders and residents were trapped by rising waters and a residential blaze as Hurricane Sandy came ashore. Sgt. Allan D. Donaire, maintenance management chief, a native of Elizabeth, N.J., and Sgt. Jorge S. Negron, communications technician, a native of Milwaukee, Wis., both from 6th Communications Battalion located in Brooklyn, N.Y., recounted the events in an interview Nov. 2.
