For most of the schools in the Dikhil area of Djibouti Africa, there aren’t nurses to tend to the normal scrapes and bruises kids tend to get. With the help of their local Horn of Africa troops, the teachers in Dikhil learned First Aid skills. Staff Sergeant Shejal Pulivarti was there and has our story. Soundbites include U.S. Army Specialist Stephanie Hatfield - Team Medic for JCAT in Dikhil and Omar Warsama - Assistant Director for Education. Produced by U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Shejal Pulivarti, Reporting. Also available in High Definition. REPORTER Dikhil district education leaders partnered with the Joint Civil Affairs Team in Dikhil, for basic classroom first aid preparations for the local teachers in Dikhil, Djibouti. SB: Today we are holding First Aid training for teachers, a lot of the teachers in Dikhil, there are four primary schools; they are coming here to learn basic first aid and how to treat things such as nose bleeds, choking, broken bones, bruises and that sort of thing. This is really good for the teachers to know what to do in that sort of scenario. REPORTER The seminar provided the local teachers in the district basic first aid knowledge and the ability to treat common injuries in the school. SB: This kind of training for us is a big thing, I checked on the teachers and they are doing a great job, they are taking the course and the Americans do a great job. REPORTER The seminar trained more than 45 local primary school teachers. Reporting from Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa, I’m Staff Sergeant Shejal Pulivarti.
