Activated on Aug. 1, 1922, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, celebrated its 90th birthday while part of the forward-deployed 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. Running a total of 90 miles in four-man relays, holding a cake-cutting ceremony and reading the battalion's lineage, the Marines of BLT 2/1 spent the day reflecting on what it meant to be part of such a storied battalion.
