  • Package about Third Army completing a disaster relief/humanitarian assistance training exercise.
  • For the first time during RIMPAC, training and certification for expeditionary forces as well as civilian teams responding to foreign disasters is incorporated into the biennial exercise.  The scenario playing out in the exercise is all too familiar.  A tsunami strikes a small island nation, causing massive devastation.  Soon after, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief organizations spring into action. The island of Chianti has been hit by a tsunami that originated off the coast of Chile so it's a very similar scenario to the Indonesian scenario and also the recent Japanese tsunami scenario.  We are coordinating efforts to assist the host nation with the recovery operation. Produced by Petty Officer Paul Seeber. Also available in high definition.
  • A humanitarian assistance survey team, consisting of 10 Marines from III Marine Expeditionary Force, departed from here for Bangkok, Thailand, to assess the flooded areas and the magnitude of assistance needed Oct. 15. The role of the Marine Corps during any humanitarian assistance and disaster response is to rapidly respond with critically needed capabilities to deliver assistance and relief to the area requiring immediate aid. III MEF regularly trains to respond to natural disasters during exercises held on Okinawa and throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Marines with 3rd MAW arrive on the USS Bonhomme Richard in preparation for Exercise Dawn Blitz. Scenes include CH53-Es and V-22 Ospreys landing aboard the ship. During the exercise, Marines will use the aircraft to train for a humanitarian assistance, disaster relief missions.
