For the first time during RIMPAC, training and certification for expeditionary forces as well as civilian teams responding to foreign disasters is incorporated into the biennial exercise. The scenario playing out in the exercise is all too familiar. A tsunami strikes a small island nation, causing massive devastation. Soon after, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief organizations spring into action. The island of Chianti has been hit by a tsunami that originated off the coast of Chile so it's a very similar scenario to the Indonesian scenario and also the recent Japanese tsunami scenario. We are coordinating efforts to assist the host nation with the recovery operation. Produced by Petty Officer Paul Seeber. Also available in high definition.
