Marines with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s air combat element, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261 (Reinforced), conduct a training rescue mission called Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel, or TRAP, at Udairi Range in Kuwait, June 30, 2012. During the training, a simulated downed pilot is recovered by 24th MEU UH-1N Hueys, which are escorted by AH-1W Cobras. The Hueys and Cobras are an attachment from Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 269, based out of Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C. The 24th MEU is deployed with the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group as a U.S. Central Command theater reserve force providing support for maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
