State Civil Defense and the Hawaii National Guard will be setting up an emergency shelter at Nanakuli High School, on Saturday June 2, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. The National Guard will be delivering supplies between 9:30 and 10:00 a.m. Civil Defense will also be setting up a Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (Races) station to communicate with the area Emergency Operation centers that are located throughout the Islands. Maj. Gen. Darryll D.M. Wong, State Adjutant General and Civil Defense Vice-Director, Doug Mayne are scheduled to be on site from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Exercise goals and objectives are to: - Develop a cohesive partnership with multiple agencies to operate a mass care shelter at Nanakuli High and Intermediate School during a Category 4 hurricane. - Develop a better understanding of the goals and objective of other agencies in the event of a disaster/mass care shelter and to support these agencies during training exercises. - Identify, develop and deploy best principles, practices and policies to improve effectiveness in working together as a team. Participating agencies include State Civil Defense, FEMA, Hawaii National Guard, California National Guard, Nevada National Guard, Department of Emergency Management, Department of Health/Public Health Nurses, Medical Reserve Corps, Waianae Civic Center, Nanakuli High School, Waianae Coast Churches, and Waianae Coast Transitional Shelters.
